RODENT CONTROL
THE "PROFESSIONAL" APPROACH TO RODENT CONTROL
Wefco ACTIVE® RODENTICIDE PRODUCTS
This range of products is based on a highly active second generation anticoagulant for the control of the Norway Rat, Roof Rat, the House Mouse, Gerbil and other commensal rodents of localised distribution. The active ingredient is effective against Warfarin resistant rats and mice.
ACTIVE INGREDIENT: Brodifacoum (Anticoagulant)
ADDING VALUE
Rats and mice prefer wholesome, uncontaminated, palatable foods and are highly sensitive to toxic and unpleasant substances. Their taste patterns are similar to those of man.
The Wefco ACTIVE® RODENTICIDE PRODUCTS have been scientifically tested for efficacy and attraction.
Wefco ACTIVE® RODENTICIDE PRODUCTS are manufactured in a dedicated facility to prevent any contaminants that might lead to bait refusal and sub lethal dosing problems.
To ensure the Wefco ACTIVE® RODENTICIDE PRODUCTS range of cereal baits are palatable, only the best quality ingredients are used in their manufacture. The products are stable and have an excellent shelf life and bait life characteristics. Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Blocks can be used for permanent baiting in damp, warm environments, including sewers.
We further improve and enhance the attractiveness of our products using flavour intensifiers that have been tested, proven to work and are readily accepted.
All Wefco ACTIVE® RODENTICIDE PRODUCTS contain a blue dye as a warning agent to deter humans and birds from feeding on them. The preferred international colours are blue or black as these are the least attractive to none target species.
In addition to this is added a bitter substance that acts as a taste deterrent to prevent accidental poisoning of other mammals and non-target species. Rodents are unable to detect this ingredient.
Wefco ACTIVE® RODENTICIDE PRODUCTS come in a wide range of bait presentations to suit all types of control programmes. They can be used singularly, in combination or in sequence.
Wefco ACTIVE® RODENTICIDE PRODUCTS unlike acute rodenticides have an effective and practical antidote to brodifacoum, Viz., phytomenadione, vitamin K1.
Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Blocks are manufactured in easy to handle 10 gm units. A hole in the centre allows for the block to be secured in bait stations when necessary.
AREAS OF USE
Wefco ACTIVE® RODENTICIDE PRODUCTS are used to control rodent infestations in and around the following areas:
- Domestic dwellings, roof voids, hedgerows, garden refuse and compost sites, hostels, hospitals, hotels, kennels, schools, office blocks, restaurants etc.
- Industrial premises used for food processing, packaging and storage. In retail catering establishments including supermarkets.
- On Agricultural premises rodents infest barns, silos, granaries, piggeries, dairies, poultry houses and stables. They are known to feed on newly planted seeds as well as feeding on new shoots and saplings in agricultural land, forestry plantations and plant nurseries.
- Local Authority solid waste disposal sites and sewers are ideal rodent harbourages as are sea going vessels and docklands where many commensal rodents thrive.
Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Blocks
Reg. No: L6189 Act No.36 of 1947
Description:
This product is in the form of a cylindrical block, blue in colour with a central hole weighing approximately 10gm each. It is made from flavour-enhanced cereals bound with wax. A wax block is easier to use than conventional loose cereal bait. Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Blocks are waterproof and the block size is appropriate to take advantage of brodifacoum’s potency. These advanced formulations retain their effectiveness longer and are very attractive to rodents.
BAITING METHODS
"Surplus" or "Unrestricted" Baiting
The traditional method of controlling rodent infestations with multi-feed anticoagulants (warfarin and coumatetralyl) is using surplus or unrestricted baiting. Large amounts of bait 200-400gm are used per bait point and these bait stations must be checked every two to three days and replenished. This must continue until no further bait is taken, usually four weeks. A lot of the bait will be unconsumed at the end of the control programme.
“Pulse” Baiting
Wefco ACTIVE® RODENTICIDE PRODUCTS have the potency to kill rats and mice after a single feed. To take full advantage of this outstanding potency, a site is treated with the same number of bait points as in surplus baiting, but the quantity of bait laid is reduced significantly (50-70gm). The inspection time and replenishment of bait is extended to seven days. During the first inspection “pulse” many of the bait points will be empty. These should not be replenished until the recommended period of seven days has elapsed between “pulses”. Extending the period between visits ensures that the rodents that fed on the bait during the first “pulse” treatment will either be dead or dying when the second treatment takes place. With the action of brodifacoum, most infestations will be controlled seven to 15 days faster than the classic anticoagulants. After achieving control the number of bait stations can be reduced and a few well-sited permanent bait stations can be left to combat any new migrants. Check these on a regular bases and replenish if necessary.
“Pulse” baiting significantly reduces the main cost in any rodent control programme, which is labour. As well as being more cost effective, ‘pulse” baiting helps to minimise the hazard to non-target mammals as less bait is on the site for a shorter period of time. In addition to this Wefco ACTIVE® RODENTICIDE PRODUCTS are not attractive to birds.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Use only as directed.
General Application:
Conduct a site survey to determine the nature and the extent of the infestation. Once established, ensure the correct placement of bait stations is made, as this is critical to the campaigns success.
NORWAY AND ROOF RATS: Place Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Blocks in a covered bait station to prevent access by children and domestic animals. Place 50-70gm of Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Blocks per bait station along walls and active rat runs, in rat burrows and in sheltered areas where rats are known to live or feed. Bait points should be inspected and replenished every 7 days until feeding ceases.
MICE: Place 10-20gm Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Blocks per bait station every 2-4m along walls or runways, in nests and in sheltered areas where mice are known to live and feed. The single feeding action of Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Blocks is particularly effective against mice with their small appetites and sporadic feeding behaviour.
GERBIL: Place 50-70gm in protected bait stations 10m apart or 10-20gm placed into active holes in the colony.
Field and Crop Application:
In general field application, blocks should be placed in rodent burrows or in a network of appropriate covered baiting stations. The dose per hectare would depend on the type of crop and the degree of infestation. No longer is it necessary for large quantities of bait to be continuously available, as was the case with earlier multi-feed anticoagulants mentioned earlier.
The advantages to using this bait are that together with high bait acceptability and the need for less bait the programme becomes more cost effective.
Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Pellets
Reg. No: L6190 Act No.36 of 1947
Description:
This product is based on flavour-enhanced cereals that are compressed to form a cylindrical pellet, blue in colour. They are generally more attractive than blocks as they contain no wax binders and are more appropriate for use indoors in bait trays or bait boxes. However, they may be used outdoors providing they are protected in waterproof covered bait stations. Once wet they crumble.
NORWAY AND ROOF RATS: Place Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Pellets in a covered bait station to prevent access by children and domestic animals. Place 50-75gm of Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Pellets per bait station along walls and active rat runs, in rat burrows and in sheltered areas where rats are known to live or feed. Bait points should be inspected and replenished every 7 days until feeding ceases.
MICE: Place 10-20gm Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Pellets per bait station every 2-4m along walls or runways, in nests and in sheltered areas where mice are known to live and feed. The single feeding action of Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Pellets is particularly effective against mice with their small appetites and sporadic feeding behaviour.
GERBIL: Place 50-70gm in protected bait stations 10m apart or 10-20gm placed into active holes in the colony.
Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Liquid Concentrate (0.75 gm/Kg)
Reg. No: L6192 Act No.36 of 1947
Description:
This product is a liquid concentrate, blue in colour to which flavour enhancers have been added and a taste deterrent to prevent poisoning of non-target species. The taste deterrent is undetectable to rodents. This presentation is water-soluble and was developed for use in areas where drinking water can be restricted or in hot arid areas. Rodents drink water daily if available to them so when liquid baits are offered in conjunction with dry bait, the potential to ingest a lethal dose is increased. In this way rats and mice can be encouraged to consume approximately double the amount of anticoagulant they would ingest from feeding on dry bait alone. In some instances the food source available to rodents may be more attractive than the dry baits. Under these circumstances liquid bait should be used.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Use only as directed.
General Application:
Initial Baiting
Mix one part of Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Liquid Concentrate 0.75 gm/Kg (0.075%) with 15 parts of clean water (65ml to 1 lire of water) and place the mixed liquid poison in a Wefco ACTIVE® Liquid Bait Dispenser or Wefco ACTIVE®Bait Station.
Permanent Baiting
Mix one part of Wefco ACTIVE® Rat and Mouse Liquid Concentrate 0.75 gm/Kg (0.075%) with 50 parts of clean water (20ml to 1 Litre of water) and place the mixed liquid poison in a Wefco ACTIVE® Liquid Bait Dispenser or Wefco ACTIVE®Bait Station.
Liquid poison baits should be placed at floor level only. Place bait stations along walls and active rat runs and in sheltered areas where rats are known to live or feed. Bait points should be inspected regularly, daily for the first week and weekly thereafter. Replenish the bait stations as necessary. Permanent baiting should be continued in heavily infested areas in conjunction with the other Wefco ACTIVE® RODENTICIDE PRODUCTS.
